The Kaduna state Magistrates Court has denied the bail request of one Yemi Awolola who was alleged to have brutalised a 14 year old girl under her care.

The Kaduna State Chief Magistrate Judge, Bashir Shittu, who refused the bail application, however, granted bail to her daughter and maid, who were also alleged to have conspired, on the ground that they are minors.

The perpetrator, Yemi Awolola along with her daughter and her maid, were arraigned before the Magistrates Court in Kaduna on a three-count charge of voluntarily inflicting body pains, conspiracy, and cruelty on a 14-year-old girl who is under their care.

After several hours of waiting, the accused was arraigned before the court, along with her daughter and her maid, who were also accused of conspiracy.

The accused person pleaded guilty to all the charges, but her daughter and maid pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Bashir Shittu denied Yemi Awolola bail and ordered that she should be remanded in prison custody, but granted her daughter and the maid bail on the ground that they are minors.

The prosecuting counsel barrister Bukola Ajao expressed delight that justice is served and vowed to pursue the matter to the end.

The defence counsel, Barrister Ali Omachi was evasive, as he declined to comment on the matter.

Kaduna State Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Barrister Zainab Atoba said, she’s pleased with the bail condition.
