The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday declined to grant the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu bail in the terrorism charges against him.
The Court also refused to give access to just anybody to visit Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for security reasons.
Justice Binta Nyako held that the only option opened to Kanu was to have gone to Court of Appeal to challenge the earlier refusal, rather than asking the Court for same thing.
Kanu had on February 26 in a fresh bail application urged the Court to set him free on the ground that he may not be able to put up a good defence in the charges against him, except he is admitted to bail and meet his Counsel.
The Federal government, represented by Adegboyega Awomolo had however objected to the fresh application on the ground that Kanu was once granted bail, but jumped bail until he was re- arrested in Kenya.
At the time of this report, the Court stood down for few minutes to enable Kanu’s lawyer consult on the next line of action.
