Akwa Ibom State Government has cancelled all of its engagements involving large crowd of people.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem said the measure and re-enforcement of existing COVID-19 protocols became necessary following a second wave of infection globally and an increase in fresh cases in the state.
The recent increase in COVID-19 infections in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom state is of great concern to the State Government; forcing it to embark on renewed efforts to enforce strict adherence to protocols.

Ekuwem added that monitoring teams will intensify activities; while calling on religious leaders to enforce agreements earlier reached.
Akwa Ibom State currently has 48 active cases.
