Nigeria has confirmed its first two cases of Omicron varriant of covid-19 also known as the B.1.1.529 lineage.
The two cases of Omicron variants were identified among travellers from South Africa who arrived Nigeria last week.
A statement signed by the Director-General, NCDC, Adetifa Ifedayo, said the two cases though asymptomatic have been linked to clinical areas and other response activities.
IFEDAYO noted that NCDC has commenced contact tracing and made arrangement to notify the country of origin in order to commence in-country response.

The NCDC DG urged state governments in Nigeria to put in place measures to curb community transmission of the varriant
He advised Nigerians to adhere strictly to public health measures and use of face masks in public places even as they continue with the washing of hands while using hand sanitizers and maintaining social distancing.
The statement also appealed to nigerians to share information from trusted sources including the NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Health.
