Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has called for the creation of additional local government areas in the state, citing rapid population growth and high demographic pressure as his reasons.

He says doing so will enable the state to maximise benefits from federal allocations and other interventions, for sustainable development.

The governor made this known while receiving the report of the high-powered committee on creation of additional Emirates, Districts and Chiefdom in the state.

It will be recalled that on July 4th, a committee was inaugurated under the chairmanship of former PDP Chairman, Hamza Akuyam to recommend the creation of new Emirates, Districts and Chiefdoms.

While presenting the report, the chairman Hamza Akuyam, disclosed that the committee received a total of 196 memoranda — 17 requesting for new emirates, 166 for districts and others for chiefdoms.

Governor Bala Mohammed commended the committee for a job well done, noting that the reforms align with his administration’s agenda to unbundle the state, and eliminate ungoverned spaces, without undermining the role of the Emirs.

The governor further emphasized that Bauchi’s rising population makes it imperative to create additional local governments to meet growing demands for infrastructure and social basic amenities.

He reaffirmed his deep respect for the traditional rulers, and assured them of his maximum support and cooperation in strengthening the traditional institution.
