A crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the appointment of some party stalwarts to the National Working Committee, on Wednesday.

Some APC women from Cross River State stormed the National Secretariat on Thursday following the choice of Professor Mary Alile Idele from Edo State as the New Women Leader.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu from Cross River State, was the immediate past Women Leader of the APC.

Sources say that Betta Edu was not pleased by the choice of the party for the Women Leader, and had registered her protest to the National Chairman on Wednesday, before the mass protest came alive on Thursday.

Men of the Nigeria Police have laid siege to the National Headquarters of the party, to avert a breakdown of law and order.

Another chieftain of the party from Cross River State, Florence Ita-Giwa, is also consulting with the leadership of the party at the National Headquarters in Abuja, over the announcement of the new women leader.

The backlash from the NWC announcement is not restricted to Cross River, as Governor Yahaya Bello is also at the Secretariat to protest the emergence of Duro Meseko as Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

Meseko is strongly believed to be the candidate for Secretary of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Committee and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, James Faleke.
