There was a near breakdown of law and order at the State secretariat of the Anambra State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic, Party, Sunday, after angry Party stakeholders held members of the Congress adhoc Congress Committee hostage for several hours.

The congress which was originally scheduled to hold on Saturday but cancelled by the committee due to what it said was “logistics reasons”, has failed to hold again.

AIT.live gathered that the Congress adhoc Committee members led by Jubril Ahmed who were present at the State party secretariat in Awka for the exercise, Sunday, could not provide the original copies of the voting materials, as they only came with photocopies.

Sources say, the election adhoc Committee members who came from the PDP National headquarters in Abuja attempted to explain out the situation, claiming that it was due to “security reasons”, but the reasons did not go down well with party members.

The party stakeholders, allegedly smelling some foul play, insisted on having the originals of the election materials or no congresses.

When it was obvious that the standoff was not going to be resolved after waiting for long hours, the adhoc Committee members addressed journalists, announcing that the exercise which had been shifted for the second time, was again put off.

The party members who were embittered by the development caused a scene, not allowing the congress Committee members to exit from the Secretariat.
