The Cross River State Police Command has rounded off activities marking the 2026 National Police Week, with renewed emphasis on community partnership, civic responsibility, and the welfare of officers and their families.
The week-long programme, which featured a blend of public engagement and humanitarian interventions, culminated in an emotional ceremony honouring officers who lost their lives in active service.
The programme began with an environmental sanitation exercise and free medical outreach at the Millennium Park in Calabar, where officers cleaned public spaces and provided basic healthcare services to residents.
It continued with a visibility walk across major streets in the metropolis, aimed at promoting physical fitness, enhancing police presence, and encouraging closer interaction with members of the public.
At the Etim Edem Motor Park, officers engaged commuters and transport operators in a sensitization campaign on safety, lawful conduct, and shared responsibility in maintaining public order.

The activities built up to a solemn ceremony marking the presentation of 17 cheques, valued at over nine million naira, to families of fallen officers, bringing the state-level observance to a close.
Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation, Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua, condoled with the bereaved families, urging them to remain resilient despite their loss.
One of the beneficiaries, a son of a late Inspector who received the cheque on behalf of his family, commended the Inspector-General of Police and the State Command, noting that the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the hardship faced by the family following the loss of their breadwinner.
The Command says that while activities have concluded at the state level, the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Week will be held in Abuja on Tuesday, April 7th.
