Cross River By-Elections: INEC releases guidelines, trains over 1, 900 Adhoc Staff

Ahead of the February 26,2022 By-elections in Ogoja/Yala federal constituency and Akpabuyo State constituency in Cross River State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has conducted a training of one thousand nine hundred and fourteen Adhoc staff for the poll.

This was contained In a statement jointly signed by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Cyril Omorogbe and the Administrative Secretary, Irene Nghuma, stating the processes and guidelines of the elections for eligible voters in the Ogoja/Yala and Akpabuyo Constituencies.

The statement said the training focused on polling and counting procedures and other election processes,
tagged “the train the trainer”, for Supervisory Presiding Officers, SPOs, drawn from federal establishments/institutions in compliance with INEC guidelines in preparation for the elections.

The two day training, organised by the Electoral Institute TEI according to the statement,has the objective of providing the SPOs with electoral skills and knowledge to be able to transfer the training to Presiding Officers, POs, and Assistant Presiding Officers, APOs, and act as Supervisory Presiding Officers in the by-elections.

It said all eligible voters whose names are on the INEC Register 2019 are qualified to participate in the forthcoming bye-election in Ogoja/Yala federal constituency and Akpabuyo State Constituency scheduled to hold on Saturday February 26, 2022.

The statement went further to emphasize the use of Biometric Voters Authentication System, BVAS, for accreditation, stating that accreditation and Voting will take place simultaneously between 8 O’clock in the morning and 2:30 in the afternoon.

It noted that new registrants who enrolled from when the Continuous Voter Registration CVR commenced in June 2021 till date should note that they cannot vote in the election.

The Commission assured that it will follow all protocols of COVID-19 in these elections.
