The Cross River State Government has entered into a partnership with the French government to convert its waste to electric power.
This was made public by Governor Ben Ayade during a presentation in his office by the consortium of French Companies.
Ayade, who expressed appreciation to the French government for facilitating the partnership, appealed to the consortium to see the project as a humanitarian intervention, rather than a mere research experiment.

The French team led by Ayodeji Okele said they were in Calabar to conduct feasibility studies on how to effectively manage waste in Cross River State.
Okele said after project assessment and confirmation, a sustainable solution for municipal waste disposal will be developed alongside a plan to generate power from the collected waste.
The assessment visit by the French team comes on the heels of a recent visit by the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jerome Pasquier to Cross River State, where a number of potential areas of economic cooperation were discussed with Governor Ben Ayade.
