In a bold move to address the challenges of unplanned pregnancies, the Cross River State government has announced a comprehensive strategy aimed at distributing family planning commodities across all local government areas.

The initiative, set to be implemented by the Family Planning Department within the State Ministry of Health, marks a pivotal transition in the state’s approach to reproductive health.

For the past two years, a key partner had spearheaded the family planning initiative in the state, making significant progress in raising awareness and accessibility.

However, the partner recently decided to step aside, paving way for the state government to assume full responsibility for the program.

Speaking during a meeting to mark the end of the intervention, the State Commissioner for Health Dr Henry Ayuk, who was represented by the Director of Public Health, State Ministry of Health, Dr Jonah Offor, expressed his commitment to the initiative, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and accessible family planning services for the state’s population.

Furthermore, the partners and beneficiaries of the two-year initiative highlighted the project’s impact and underscored the necessity for the government to take a more prominent role in advancing the family planning agenda.

The decision of the Cross River State government to take ownership of the family planning initiative signifies a critical step towards achieving sustainable health outcomes for its population.
