Cross River Hosts 46th Regular Meeting of National Council on Agriculture And Food Security

With millions of Nigerians at the risk of food insecurity due to climate change, the 46th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security has officially opened in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, rallying key stakeholders to find sustainable solutions.

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening session of the 5-day event, Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Temitope Fashedemi, emphasized the significance of the Council’s deliberations in shaping the future of Nigeria’s food security.

Fashedemi noted that the outcomes of the meeting were expected to set concrete roadmaps for achieving national food security goals and will offer guidelines for addressing the impacts of climate change on Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

Cross River State Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity the meeting presents, noting that Cross River State was keen to showcase its agricultural potential and investment opportunities to support national food security goals.

As the sessions unfold, participants would examine strategies to bolster resilience against climate impacts, improve food production capacity, and encourage policies that foster sustainable agricultural practices.
