Ayade said this became necessary because of the exodus of medical doctors from the state employees who prefer working with the federal government and other international agencies due to poor remuneration.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, has approved a hundred percent increment for the Consolidate Medical Salaries Structures, CONMESS, for all medical doctors serving under the government with immediate effect.

The wife of the Governor, Dr Linda Ayade, made this known in Calabar while addressing the Nigerian Medical Association and Consultant across the 18 Local Government Area of the State

The Governor’s wife who was joined by the State Commissioner for Health,Dr. Betta Edu said the approval became necessary due to continuous movement of medical doctors from the state’s workforce to greener pastures.

She said the development had posed a huge challenge to the health sector in the state, hence the 100% increase of Consolidate Medical Salaries Structures of doctors by Governor Ayade.

Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association, Innocent Abang commended the wife of the Governor who assisted them to get the approval, despite the state’s lean resources.

With this development, medical doctors on the state payroll will now start enjoying the same salaries as their counterparts at the Federal level in the country.
