The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria has addressed what it calls “unwarranted attacks” on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
At a world press conference, the Council expressed worry over political parties struggling with internal disputes and then turning their frustration on institutions doing their jobs.
Speaking to journalists, the Executive Director of the council, Blessing Akinlosotu, said the ongoing attacks on the Commission over the leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, were not only unfair but dangerous for Nigeria’s democracy.
According to him, the ADC dispute is entirely an internal matter that spiralled out of control after the party ceded leadership positions to new entrants in 2025.
The council insisted that the attacks on the INEC Chairman were misplaced and unhealthy for the country.
