A coalition of civil society groups for transparency and good governance is calling for the immediate resignation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, over his perceived partisanship.

The group made the call in Abuja while staging a protest at the headquarters of the Nigerian bar association, NBA.

Briefing journalists, the Executive Director of the coalition, Abubakar Manzo, said the call was necessary to allow democracy to thrive as the CJN’s involvement in politics is against the ethics of the judiciary.

Meanwhile, reacting to the suggestions in some quarters that the statement exposed the head of the judiciary as supporting politicians when he is expected to be apolitical, the supreme court has described the claims as only myopic misrepresentations as the CJN has never at any point said he was happy that governor Seyi Makinde is a member of the G-5 governors.

It added that Justice Ariwoola only hoped that Makinde would be able to replicate the development strides in Rivers state in Oyo state as Makinde is an ally of Governor Nyesom Wike.
