The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Katsina State has demanded the immediate suspension from office of the embattled Vice-Chancellor of the state-owned University, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Professor Sanusi Mamman, who is under investigation for official misconduct.

A statement by the Chairman of the Coalition, Abdulrahman Abdullahi, said the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor will give room for credible and unhindered investigation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Mamman, a Professor of Special Education is currently facing a panel of inquiry, set up by the management of the institution, to investigate alleged mismanagement of the university’s resources and illicit affairs with his students.

According to the statement, the Coalition is concerned about the image of the institution that has been tarnished in the social media.

Abdullahi added that the Coalition appreciates the action taken by the Governing Council of the university, by constituting a panel of inquiry, to investigate the allegations and misconducts against the Vice-Chancellor, at a time when the majority of the people, are of the view that the allegations if not properly investigated and necessary action taken, could ruin the hard-earned integrity of the university.

The Coalition added that, apart from suspending the Vice-Chancellor, to allow for fairness and justice in the ongoing investigation, his continuous occupation of the
position may cause alterations, fabrications and inaccessibility to implicating facts.

He noted that the Vice Chancellor’s continued stay in office may create fear of victimization in those that may be required to give testimonies or want to come forward with evidence against him.

The Coalition also called for the suspension of all contentious recruitments made by the Vice-Chancellor until a review is done to ensure that the recruited staff have met all the required criteria and qualifications.

The Civil Society Organisations also called for the constitution of another panel to look into staff victimization, unlawful postings of staff and promotion
