Civil Society organizations, CSOs has told the National Assembly to speed up the passage of the independent national electoral commission’s 2026 budget to quickly commence on the implementation of the newly released 2027 elections time-table.
Some members of the CSOs who spoke to Ait at the citizen’s town hall meeting with experts on the electoral amendment bill in Abuja, said the timely disbursement of the over N800bn estimate will empower the commission to prepare ahead in conducting a hitch-free exercise.
On Friday, INEC officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 General Election through its chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, confirming that the elections will follow the legal framework of the 1999 Constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act.

The Presidential and National Assembly Elections is expected to take place on Saturday, February 20, 2027 while Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections will be two weeks after the presidential poll which is on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Anambra, Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States are exempted from the newly released timetable as the governorship elections will not hold due to off-cycle schedules.
