The Nigerian customs service Port Harcourt Area 1 says it generated over one hundred and forty two billion naira from January to August twenty twenty four due to the measures put in place by Comptroller Mustapha Hashim in revitalizing and repositioning the port for efficient trade facilitation.

While briefing journalist at the Port Harcourt Area 1 Rivers State, Comptroller Hashim attributed the rise in revenue generation to enhanced operational efficiency and successful implementation of new revenue generation initiatives.

The eastern seaports which Port Harcourt Area 1 falls into used to be a beehive of activities with the bathing of several vessels like oil tankers, general cargo ships, container ships, including liquefied petroleum gas carriers, and chemical tankers, but same can no longer be said today.

with the initiatives put in place by the Comptroller Mustapha Hashim which had the buy- in of key stakeholders in the port, activities have started picking up as the command was able to announce over one hundred and five percent increase in revenue drive compared to the previous year.

The month of August experienced a slight decline in revenue collection due to the Federal Government directive for the implementation of zero percent duty rate and value-added tax exemption on some basic food items.

The customs authorities say they are poised to make the environment more conducive for traders in full compliance to the Federal Government policy on ease of doing business as well as the time release study, TRS adopted by the Comptroller general of Customs.
