Justice Ekerete Akpan of the Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted 21 foreigners in one of Nigeria’s biggest cybercrime cases, a decisive win in the Police crackdown on internet fraud.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the convictions follow a year-long trial after Police operatives raided a building in Jahi, Abuja, on November 3rd, 2024.

One hundred and thirty suspects were arrested in that operation, 113 foreigners, mostly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and 17 Nigerians, over allegations of large-scale internet fraud, hacking, and other crimes threatening Nigeria’s security and economy.

As of August 1st, 2025, a competent court found 21 of them guilty and handed down sentences.

The prosecution of the remaining suspects is still ongoing, with the Police working alongside the Ministry of Justice.

IGP Egbetokun stressed that the convictions send a strong warning that Nigeria will not be a safe haven for cybercriminals.

The Force reiterates that it will continue deploying cutting-edge technology, international partnerships, and forensic expertise to dismantle organized cybercrime rings.

Observers say this marks a major legal victory for the Nigeria Police Force in its sustained fight against cybercrime and the protection of national security.
