The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Zamfara State Chapter has expressed concerns over the disheartening situation facing Zamfara students at Cyprus International University.

In a statement signed by the Council State Chairman, comrade Nurudeen Salisu said, the young scholars embarked on the academic journey to acquire knowledge and skills vital to the future of Zamfara State but regrettably, they now find themselves caught in an appalling quagmire of humiliation and academic disruption.

The statement added that the Council stands firmly in solidarity with the affected students, their families, and the youth constituency while reaffirming its role as the voice of the Nigerian youth under the guiding framework of the National Youth Policy.

For this reason, they are committed to galvanizing efforts towards a swift and effective resolution, and the leadership of the Council has set up an AdHoc Committee of Inquiry, tasked with engaging the government, students, parents, and other critical stakeholders to ensure an outcome that prioritizes transparency, justice, and prompt intervention for the future of the affected scholars.

They acknowledged the preliminary response of the government by sending a three-man delegation to Cyprus International University, but the outcome has been far from satisfactory.

The statement noted that more decisive action is required to address the gravity of this situation.
In line with our commitment to the maxim “an injury to one is an injury to all,”

The Council urged the government to redouble its efforts and expedite the process to secure our students’ safety, well-being, and educational stability.

The Council wants Immediate clarification of any payment discrepancies, alongside a concrete action plan to settle all outstanding obligations, and urged the government to give an unwavering assurance of the students’ safe living conditions and uninterrupted academic progress, along with support systems to bolster their well-being by securing accommodations in the interim in private hostels.

The NYCN Zamfara State Chapter say it remains steadfast in its commitment to continuously monitor the impasse, advocating for the rights of the young scholars their and educational advancement.
