A Lagos-bound Dana airlines aircraft caught fire at Port Harcourt international airport with 50 passengers on board on Monday night.
A spokesman for the airlines, Kingsley Ezenwa who spoke to ait.live on said the pilot took immediate safety procedures to assist passengers to embark from the aircraft to safety.
Ezenwa said the aircraft was about to take off when the pilot in command noticed an anomaly and queried with air traffic control before embarking on a ramp return in line with the airline’s safety operating procedures.
Dana air further explained that the impact on the brakes as a result of the aborted take off affected the aircraft tyres which sparked while the aircraft was taxiing to park again.
The airline operators confirmed that all passengers were unhurt.
Dana’s maintenance team immediately grounded the aircraft pending the conclusion of investigations on the incident.
