The Dangote Refinery has denied a statement attributed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC spokesperson, OluFemi Soneye, claiming that the refinery sells Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol at N898 per litre to NNPC.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Refinery, Anthony Chiejina described Soneye’s claim as “misleading and mischievous” aimed at undermining the refinery’s achievement in addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity.

Chiejina urged Nigerians to disregard the statement and await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based Crude Sales to Local Refineries, appointed by President Bola Tinubu, which will commence on October 1, 2024.

The refinery clarified that its current stock of crude was procured in dollars and sold to NNPC in dollars, resulting in significant savings.

Dangote Refinery assured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products, stating that petrol will be available in every local government area, regardless of remoteness.

This development comes after Femi Soneye announced that NNPC had successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery, contradicting his earlier claim of a higher price.

The controversy surrounding the PMS price has sparked confusion, with many calling for clarity.

The Dangote Refinery’s rebuke of NNPC’s claim has raised questions about the relationship between the two entities and the future of Nigeria’s energy sector.
