Benue State Government has disclosed plans to develop a four-year strategic plan aimed at addressing the root cause of attacks particularly herder related with a view to healing the wounds occasioned by the prolonged conflicts in the area.
The Director-General of the Benue State Commission for Peace and Reconciliation, Josephine Habba stated this in Makurdi, the state capital during a two-day strategic consultative workshop on peace, reconciliation, and climate change.
As the humanitarian crisis continues to engulf the country’s food basket with an overwhelming percentage of the farming population sacked from their ancestral home it generates deep concern from the national and international front.

As part of measures to address this worrisome development that the Federal Government in collaboration with International Alert convened the peace and reconciliation meeting for all stakeholders.
While traditional leaders want herders to comply with the State’s ranching policy, they have some reservation. The Federal Government however wants all parties to embrace peace for improved food production.
All parties to the ceaseless attacks on farming communities eventually reached a compromise with a commitment to work for peace.
