The Nigerian Government has been told to declare a state of emergency on food dehydration and intensify search for alternative food production mechanisms to avert looming food crisis, and to cut down rising food prices occasioned by global food crisis.
The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFEST) made the call during the 2022 Food Safety Summit in Abuja, the nation’s capital where other speakers outlined facts on the country’s commodity production performance.
With Nigeria and 44 other countries around the world severely exposed to the Ukraine war-induced food crisis, the Institute says there is the need to holistically address food challenges and reshape the country’s food systems.
The summit outlined steps that will assist in not compromising food safety standards in the race to increase food production and processing for the growing population.
The theme for the 2022 Food Safety Summit is, “Strategic steps for easing the impact of global food crisis in Nigeria”.
