Defence Chief visits Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, says no alternative to peace

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa paid a familiarization visit to the leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs at the National Mosque, Abuja on Friday.

The military chief said his visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian armed forces and religious leaders across the country.

He further explained that the military remains committed to the protection of lives and property of Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or religion, adding that the military is nonpartisan and apolitical and will do all possible to protect the territorial integrity of the country.

The Defence Chief called on religious leaders in Nigeria to use their positions to foster the peace and unity needed for the socioeconomic development of the country.

The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari, and other Imams in attendance thanked the military chief for the visit and said that all the Imams in the Central and other mosques in the FCT are promoters of peace in their sermons and everything they do.

The members of the Council assured the Defence Chief they will continue to pray for peace in the country.
