Nigeria’s Defence headquarters says allegations suggesting internal sabotage within the Nigerian military contributed to the mass killings in Yelwata, Benue State, are unfounded and not supported by credible evidence.

A Statement by the spokesperson Brigadier general Tukur Gusau says attributing the Yelwata massacre to internal sabotage within the Nigerian military is misleading and detracts from the real issues at play.

He said the Nigerian military has consistently denied any involvement in the massacre, adding that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has publicly stated that the military was not responsible for the killings in Yelwata.

Furthermore, the Nigerian military says its commitment to protecting civilians and upholding the rule of law remains intact

Gusau further stated there is no credible evidence to substantiate claims of internal sabotage within the military related to the Yelwata incident.

He also called on the communities not to hide criminals and also assured them the military and other security agencies are there to protect lives and properties of law abiding citizens.
