Troops of the Special Task Force Operation Safe have been told not to act on emotions while carrying out their duties but to be driven by patriotism.
This advice was given during a lecture series organised for troops of the military outfit on human rights by the defence headquarters.
The increasing security challenges across the country have seen the participation of more military personnel in internal security operations.
This has led to friction, in some cases, with the civilian population.
In order to address issues of human rights abuses that might arise in such situations, it has prompted the defence headquarters to organise this reorientation for officers and men of the operation safe haven as disclosed by the commander operation safe haven Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
Lectures were delivered on torture, cruel treatment, and the protection of civilians, and the troops were advised on proper conduct during operations.
The troops were also advised to update themselves with relevant laws and acts, as it will assist them in decision-making during critical situations.
