The Defense Headquarters has described as false and misleading reports making the rounds regarding a failed attempted coup to overthrow President BolaTinubu.

The report also alleged that the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary celebration parade was in connection with the failed coup plot.

The military high command also denied arresting sixteen military officers over an alleged involvement in the said coup plot.

In a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General TUKUR GUSAU, the cancellation of the 65th independence anniversary parade was to afford President Tinibu to attend a strategic bilateral meeting outside the country and also for members of the Armed forces to sustain the momentum on the fight against terrorism, insurgency and banditry.

The statement added that the ongoing investigation involving the sixteen officers is a routine internal process to ensure that discipline and professionalism is maintained within the ranks, furthermore, Gusau said An investigative panel has been constituted, and that its findings will be made public on completion.

The DHQ concluded that The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain firmly loyal to the Constitution and the federal government under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
