Takum Town in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, North-East Nigeria has suffered from devastating windstorm that left houses, places of worship, businesses, and schools destroyed.
The windstorm, which lasted for hours, and was followed by a downpour, may be connected to the effects of climate change, as the local government area has faced massive deforestation, in the quest for rosewood trees for timber, in the past few years. Some of the residents also blame the massive cutting of trees for the disaster.
Governor Agbu Kefas who visited to commiserate with families that have suffered losses from the windstorm ordered for an immediate assessment of the level of destruction and areas of possible support.

The Governor and the team of government officials also undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the places affected by the disaster in Takum.
It will be recalled that Governor Agbu Kefas signed an Executive Order in June 2023, suspending all mining and deforestation activities in Taraba State, but deforestation activities are still ongoing though on a snaller scale.
