While adhering to its earlier warning on mitigating flooding across the state, the Delta State Government has embarked on demolition of buildings along waterways using Uwvie Local Government Area as starting point.
The demolition being carried out by the Director-General, Special Duties Frank Omare assisted by the Ministry of Lands and Survey currently working at Uvwie with about 7 swamp boogy in various areas will move to Warri, Warri South Council Area, Udu, Ughelli and other flood-prone parts of Delta state
To checkmate the disaster, the state government under different administrations embarked on demolition of structures built on natural waterways.
The two-month-old administration of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has taken up the gauntlet pulling down parts of a three-building with an uncompleted church building and a storey building at Ugboroke, Uvwie Council Ares.
Leader of the demolition team Frank Omare who had embarked on a similar mission during the Uduaghan administration said the expiration of months of grace to the offenders necessitated the action.
According to Omare, his mandate is to rid the state of illegal structures and 40% of houses in Uvwie are illegal and have no soakaways.
As at the time of this report, canals at Bolokor Road, Emebiren, Okomagba, lower bridge, Father hill street, Heaven Estate Ogboroke and Robinson Plaza are being opened up.
