The Delta State state government on Thursday toke major steps on the implementation of the new minimum wage, with the State Executive Council directing the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner for Finance and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the State to work out modalities for action.
The State Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza who made this know at the Government House, Asaba during a Media briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, explained that the talks would revolve round the consequential adjustment of the new wage.
Aside the directive for the implementation of the new minimum wage the Commissioner for Information, said Governor Oborevwori had also directed the Commissioner for Agriculture and the Chief Job Creation Officer to come up with a programme that will ameliorate the effects of the hardship in the country, especially on youths.
Osuoza listed the other decisions of the State Executive Council meeting to include; the payment of N3.55bn counterpart funding for the 2024 Universal Basic Education Programme in the State; the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of failed sections of NNPC Housing Complex Road, Uvwie Local Government Area; the Ekeye-Ovedhe close in Okumagba Layout Warri; the General Hospital Road, Oghara in Ethiope West Local, Government Area, amongst others.
The Commissioner for Health, Joseph Onojaeme told Journalists that the State Exco equally approved the purchase of two Computerised Tomography (CT) Scanning Machines, one each for the Central Hospital, Warri and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.
The Health Commissioner disclosed that due to the place of Primary Healthcare in the grassroots healthcare delivery system, his Ministry also got approval for the renovation of over 150 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the State.
