Delta Police Arrest 184 Suspected Internet fraudsters, Kidnapping Syndicate

One hundred and eighty four suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by operatives of the Delta state police command and the Nigeria army , 33 battalion Effurun.

The arrest was successful following a sting operation on a location within post housing estate in Effurun, where suspected internet fraudsters and terrorism financing activities take place.

Items recovered from the operation which was conducted on the 21st of July 2025 , include over two hundred assorted laptops, ninety seven assorted smart phones, one ipad, one tablet phone, 9 laptop chargers and two Wi-Fi routers.

In another development, the police command acting on credible intelligence received reports on a planned abduction of several high profile individuals in Sapele, Oghara and environs by a notorious syndicate under the leadership of one Owei Abebo, alias ADUSA, who has been on the command’s watch list since 2021.

The operatives swung into a strategic operation on the 19th of July 2025, in Oghara and arrested key members of the criminal gang alongside other criminals with cross border operations across Delta and Edo states.

The operation also saw the arrest of a suspected spiritual herbalist identified as Peter Benson from Kwale in Ndokwa local government area, responsible for ritual preparations for suspected criminals, his arrest also led the police to another suspect, one Joseph Saniyo, 63 years old from Ajakorama community, Ovia South West local government area of Edo state.

Items recovered from the suspected herbalists include three live tortoises and other fetish items believed to be used in criminal fortification rituals.

The police also recovered two hundred and forty seven rounds of live ammunition for a submarine gun.

The state’s police boss, Abaniwonda Olufemi, in statement issued by the command, commended the gallant officers involved in these operations for their professionalism, bravery and swift response to credible intelligence.

He reiterated the command’s readiness to intensify intelligence operations, surveillance and community engagement to ensure that Delta state remains uninhabitable for criminal syndicates.

The statement concluded with the assurance that all suspects will be prosecuted.
