Delta Police Command Recovers Firearms, Arrest Suspects for Gun Running

Three suspected gun runners have been arrested by the Police in Delta State, South-South region of Nigeria.

The suspects were apprehended in two separate stop and search operations along the Warri – Benin Expressway and the Asaba – Benin highway on different dates, early March 2025..

Peter James, whose age is given as 55, was reportedly driving a Toyota Camry car from Akwa Ibom State on the 3rd of March, 2025, when he was intercepted by operatives.

A search on the vehicle, led to the recovery of, 2,080 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition and 1,040 rounds of 5.1mm ammunition.

While in a separate operation on 6th March 2025, Yahuza Magaji aged 69, and Abba Sani aged 17, both from Kaduna State, who disguised as traders were arrested along the Asaba – Benin expressway by the National Open University, Onicha-Ugbo axis. The duo were driving in a Space bus when operatives flagged down the vehicle for a search, and the discovery were stunning.

The vehicle which was loaded with Palm oil and garri, turned out to be a firearms and ammunition conveyer as the Policemen discovered 7 pump action guns, 5 cartons containing 1,600 rounds of live cartridges concealed under the back seat of the vehicle.

Further investigations revealed that the suspects bought the arms from Onitsha and were transporting them to Kaduna State in the volatile Northeast part of the country.

According to the Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe in statement issued on Monday, all the suspects were taken into custody and investigations were ongoing.
