The tragic death of a 15-year-old boy in Delta State has triggered a renewed police crackdown on drug cartels and illegal drug distribution networks.

The victim, Gift Oberhirhi, reportedly died after ingesting fifteen tablets of Dexamethasone allegedly given to him by his friend, Destiny Akpofure, also 15, without any medical prescription.

He fell ill shortly after taking the substance and died while being rushed for medical attention.

The incident, reported at the Orogun Police Division, prompted swift action by operatives who visited the scene, evacuated the corpse to the Orogun General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and arrested the suspect, now in custody as investigations continue.

In response, the Delta State Police Command says it has intensified intelligence-led operations targeting drug dens, blackspots, and criminal hideouts across the state.

The Command describes the incident as a stark reminder of the growing danger posed by the illegal distribution and misuse of drugs, particularly among young people.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that sustained enforcement actions will dismantle drug networks and curb drug-related crimes across the state.
