A cross section of residents in Warri want the Delta state government to have a rethink over its decision to slash the salaries of civil servants.

Those who spoke to AIT say the number of political appointees should be reduced and not the already underpaid employees.

Delta state, one of the country’s oil producing States is also among the top five when it comes to receiving federal allocation.

Considering the huge sum of monies that enters the state coffers a cross section of the populace have expressed displeasure over the government’s announcement to slash the salaries of both public and civil servants.

Included in the reasons given by the government for the pay cut is an over bloated work force of 48,000 and over 7bn naira salary wage bill.

The state government says its decision although a painful one, was taken in the interest of everyone.
