Delta state deploys Lassa fever emergency team against Coronavirus

Following the confirmation of the coronavirus in Nigeria, the Delta state government says it has swiftly reactivated its response team by placing all health related institutions and disease control mechanisms in the state on red alert for the purpose of containing the disease should it find its way into the state.

Commissioner for health, Mordi Ononye in a media briefing said the alertness has been extended to health authorities manning the seaports in the state to promptly intercept and quarantine any suspected case pending when the patient will be moved to the health institution.

The media conference on coronavirus was a gathering of various health bodies in the state, the emergency operation center, the National Center for Disease Control, NCDC and the full compliments of the state ministry of health.

The health commissioner who has in line with governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s directive set up a response team to forestall the outbreak of the virus said the state emergency operation centre has been working round the clock for some weeks now on cases of Lassa fever which he said has claimed one life with 15 confirmed cases.

He assured that the state has equally taken proactive measures to contain coronavirus should it spread to the state.

Both the commissioner for information, Charles Aniagwu, director-general state bureau of orientation, Eugene Uzum and permanent secretary ministry of health Minnie Oseji took time to provide information on coronavirus which according to them was not an outright death sentence
