Delta State Government has taken the first step in implemention of the recommendations of the White Paper on the communal clash between Ozoro and Oleh communities in Isoko North and South Local Government Areas of the state with a token of compensation.

Secretary to Delta State Government, Patrick Ukah while presenting a cheque of N3 million in his office on behalf of the State Government to each of the families of those who lost their lives in the 2020 communal clash said other recommendations of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on the crisis will follow suit.

The representatives of the families of Oleh 12, murdered on their farms by their rival community Ozoro throughout the meeting, were emotionally moody especially their women who were unable to hold back their tears.

Ụka while presenting the cheques muttered consolation words but said what happened during the land dispute could not be quantified in monetary terms as the token he said was meant to cushion the cost of the burial and sundry needs.

Isoko South Local Government Chairman represented by the Council Secretary thanked the State Government for their role in the clash and pleaded for quick implementation of other resolutions

Family member of one of the deceased and President-General of Oleh community raised salient points that need to be addressed.

With the implementation of the resolutions of the White Paper and meeting the demands of the tradition of Oleh community it is expected that the remains of the victims deposited in the morgue for the past two years would now be given proper burial.
