National Assembly

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has called on constituents to demand accountability from their representatives in the National Assembly.

Isiaka, who represents the Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, explained at an event on Good Governance in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, that dividends of democracy and community development will be fast-tracked if constituents hold their representatives accountable.

He listed the legislature’s primary functions to include lawmaking, representation of the constituency, and oversight of the executive branch, among others.

He observed that with agitations for grassroots development across the 774 Local Government Areas of the country facing challenges, the 360 federal constituencies are utilizing constituency projects to facilitate development in their respective communities.

According to Isiaka, sometimes facilitating these developments may involve a federal legislator’s lobbying efforts and skills to achieve success.

“If a representative is ineffective, facilitating infrastructure to remote communities may be difficult.”
