The case of the deposed Emir of Maru in Zamfara State which was transferred to the state High Court has been adjourned to November 17, 2020, for a ruling in the application filed to substitute the fifth respondents.

The presiding judge, Justice Bello Shinkafi, after listening to both counsels’ arguments on the motion, however, adjourned the case.

The former Emir of Maru, Abubakar Ibrahim, had filed the suit challenging his removal as the Emir of Maru in Zamfara State and unlawful detention and defamation of character.

He is also asking the court to restraint the Inspector General of Police and six others from further rearrest and is demanding 6.5 billion Naira as damage for his unlawful arrest.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Abubakar Aliyu, said his client filed an application for a motion to substitute the fifth respondents from the Assistant Director to State Director of the Department of State Services. The judge heard the motion and reserved ruling.

The defense counsel, Jibrin Audu, wants the court to dismiss the application, for lacking in merit, according to him, it was not properly filed.

It would be recalled that the former Emir of Maru was dethroned last year by the state government for his alleged involvement in banditry activities.
