He stated this at his Ogidi residence in Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State, when one of the biggest masquerades in Igbo land, the “Ajo Ofia Nnewi” led by Professor ABC Nwosu joined him in the celebration of the annual Nwafor Ogidi festival.
The ogidi festival, turned out to be a spectacular display of the rich cultural heritage of the Igbos, of the South East region of Nigeria as the famous Ajo Ofia Nnewi masquerade made its way into the Ogidi country home of Obiora Okonkwo.
Okonkwo believes that the culture of every community should be upheld, urging the authorities to fashion out ways to engage the cultural institutions for the growth and development of the society.
Obiora Okonkwo notes that the time has come when Nigeria must stop looking at culture and tradition as not essential to political plans, or treat them like they have nothing to contribute to the growth and advancement of the society.
