The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Muhammed Fadah has urged corps members undergoing the compulsory 3 weeks orientation course, not to use social media to peddle fake news.
The NYSC DG, Brigadier General Muhammed Fadah who was represented by the Katsina State coordinator of the scheme, Aisha Muhammed, said a total of 1,025 corps members, comprising 559 males and 466 females of the Batch C Stream One, have so far been registered, and currently undergoing the compulsory 3 weeks orientation course.

Fadah also urged corps members to desist from using social media to engage in posting fake news, especially with the current insecurity bedevilling the country, as well as to stay off drugs.
According to him, “You must continue to distance yourselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices. I also urge you to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes, and instead deploy the same for the promotion of national unity and development”.
He also urged the corps members to uphold the oath of allegiance and be law-abiding, as spelt out in the NYSC Act, and its bye-laws.
“Let me also remind you that the Oath Of Allegiance you have taken today is significant, as it is expected to guide your conduct in the Service Year, as well as have an everlasting influence on your life after service. You are also enjoined to familiarize yourselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws”, he said.
Fadah further urged the corps members to take the Skills Acquisition And Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, lectures seriously, to become self-reliant after the NYSC.
According to him, “At this juncture, I will like to remind you that white-collar jobs are not readily available. Therefore, I encourage you to avail yourselves of the opportunities for self-employment, offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, (SAED) Programme. You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas, and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the Orientation Camp”.
While administering the Oath Of Allegiance to the corps members, Katsina Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, reminded them that the content of the oath will continue to be binding on them, even after service.
Danladi told the corps members that the oath they have sworn to marks the beginning of seeing themselves as Nigerians first, before any other considerations.
