The Defence Headquarters says that it has not announced the appointment of any senior officer as acting Chief of Army Staff COAS, contrary to speculations by certain media outlets.

A statement by Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau states that for the records, no such appointment exists within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

He adds that The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is currently on a well-deserved rest as part of his 2024 annual leave and the Armed forces are professionally managed, stressing that all the Service Chiefs are performing their duties as stipulated in the national constitution.

The statement further said that the Chief of Policy and Plans, General Abdulsalam Ibrahim is providing routine briefs to the Army Chief.

The DHQ urges individuals spreading unfounded rumours to desist from doing so immediately as the COAS is hail and hearty and will soon resume normal duties at the end of his leave.
