Governments will need to formulate policies that can sufficiently address challenges faced by diabetic patients such as the burden of treatment.
This will give them a sense of belonging like those living with HIV and Tuberculosis who enjoy free drugs and treatments across the country.

In Nigeria, diabetic patients are faced with numerous challenges such as high cost of drugs, treatment and care in managing their conditions.
The National coordinator, Network of persons living with diabetes in Nigeria, Bernard Enyia, was himself diagnosed of diabetes in 2008 and confesses that life has not been easy for him and his family since then.
Bernard therefore appealed to the Nigerian government to formulate policies that would reduce the burden of diabetes on victims.

Bernard cautioned Nigerians against excessive intake of sugar and sweetened beverages and highlighted warming signs to include: blurred vision, fatigue, unexplained weight loss among others.
