Senator Dino Melaye’s bid to return to the Nigerian Senate was aborted on Tuesday when he lost in the PDP primary election conducted to determine the party’s candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District in the coming 2023 elections.
Dino lost to a current member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Yusuf who scored 163 votes to emerge the winner of the ticket while Melaye scored 99 votes.
The Kogi West senatorial PDP primaries was a hot contest between four aspirants namely Olayemi, Sam Aro, Dino Melaye and current member representing Kabba federal constituency, Tajudeen Yusuf, where a total of 262 delegates from Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kabba-Bunu, Lokoja and Kogi local government councils took part in the election
Monday’s process which saw Dino Melaye and Tajudeen having a tie of 88 votes each was settled through a rerun conducted on Tuesday where Tajudeen Yusuf emerged winner.
The winner, Tajudeen Yusuf who is currently serving his third term at the green chambers while reacting to the victory called for collaboration from his fellow contestants.
As at the time of filing this report, the Kogi Central PDP primary election for the senatorial district has been postponed for the second time without any cogent reason.
From Kogi East Senatorial district, former Director of Corporate Communications at Zenith bank, Victor Adoji emerged winner after beating three other contenders.
In another election, social activist Austin Okai emerged as the candidate for Dekina /Bassa federal constituency, Joshua Adejoh for Ankpa federal constituency and John Ocheje will be flying the flag for Idah federal constituency all for the PDP.
