Domestic & Sexual Violence: Lagos State Government Advocates Multi Disciplinary Approach

Over Four hundred cases of Domestic and Sexual Violence offences are reported on a monthly Bases in Lagos State and to strengthen Prevention.

The Lagos State Government is calling for a multi disciplinary approach to address the Continuous rise across the state and even the country.

Speaking at a forum, Governor Babajide Sanwo -Olu who was represented by the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Titilola Vivour – Adeniyi encouraged Residents to speak up on cases to beat the culture of silence and take advantage of support interventions provided by the State government.

Some Social Economic Challenges, Poverty, Cultural Beliefs and substance Abuse have continued to fuel domestic and sexual violence in the the society.

For instance,the executive secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual violence Agency Titilola Vivour -Adeniyi who represented governor Babajide Sanwo -Olu at this forum said over Four hundred cases are attended to on a monthly basis in the state.

While efforts are ongoing by the government to mainstream the fight against domestic and sexual violence into critical sectors like health, Education, Security and the justice system to increase enlightenment and campaign for SGBV Prevention, Vivour -Adeniyi said alot still depends on individuals to end the culture of silence .

Meanwhile Over one hundred and forty convictions have been secured in the last one year with the assistance of security agencies, non governmental Organizations and individuals who have contributed immensely to the fight against domestic and sexual violence in the State.
