Anthony Joshua car crash: Court grants N5m bail to driver

Ogun State Police Command has charged that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, to the Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, who stated this on Friday said the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun earlier confirmed that former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was discharged late Wednesday evening, having been certified clinically fit to continue his recovery from home.

He also disclosed that the driver of the SUV vehicle has been discharged and investigated by the Ogun State Police Command and may be prosecuted if found culpable.

The defendant was charged on four counts, including:
1. Dangerous Driving Causing Death, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F: 135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (as applicable in Ogun State).
2. Reckless and Negligent Driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act.
3. Driving Without Due Care and Attention, causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1) of the Act.
4. Driving Without a Valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was granted bail in the sum of ₦5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) with two sureties.

He was remanded pending when he meets his bail condition. The case has been adjourned to 20th January 2026 for trial.
