The Department of State Security Service, DSS, has finally released eight of Sunday Igboho’s aides who have been in their custody since July 1, 2021.
The counsel representing Sunday Igboho’s aides, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said this during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, stating that the remaining four will be released in no time.

Olajemgbesi also said that two of the contested detainees are part of the eight released.
Olajengbesi had on August 27, given the DSS 48 hours to release his clients who have been in their custody for over two months since their arrest, stating that failure for the DSS to release them will warrant them facing contempt proceedings before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Abuja Federal High Court had signed the release order, setting Sunday Igboho’s aides free, 19 days after they were granted bail on August 4, 2021.
Justice Egwuatu also signed the Release Order of the four contested detainees, ignoring the persistent argument of the Department of State Service, DSS, lawyer Idowu Awo who alleged that there is a high level of complicity on their part.
The 12 persons were arrested following a midnight raid on Igboho’s residence on the 2nd of July in which two persons were killed by officers of the Nigerian secret police.
