Seven General Purpose Machine Guns, several AK-47 rifles, five hand grenades, hundreds of live rounds, and a cache of sophisticated weapons have been intercepted by the Department of State Services, DSS in Delta State, South-South Nigeria.
An AIT.Live source said the operation, carried out in Asaba on October 12, followed weeks of surveillance by DSS operatives who intercepted a truck loaded with bags of beans used to conceal the arms.
The suspected arms dealer from Taraba State, and his 40-year-old accomplice, were arrested during the sting operation.

Also recovered from the suspects were 497 cartons of counterfeit drugs, believed to be part of the same criminal consignment.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has ordered a total crackdown on criminal networks and warned that anyone aiding or abetting gunrunning will face the full weight of the law.
The DSS says investigations are ongoing to trace the financiers and other collaborators behind the international arms-trafficking syndicate.
