In a significant victory against banditry, tactical teams of the Department of State Services (DSS), backed by the Nigerian military have successfully neutralized 45 heavily armed bandits near Kuchi town, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State

AIT Online gathered that the early morning raid on Monday, June 2nd, was described by security sources as a stealth operation targeting a group of about 100 bandits who had relocated from Zamfara and Kaduna States.

Intelligence reports indicate the attackers were mobilised by notorious kingpin, Dogo Gide in a planned assault on villages in the Kuchi area.

AIT Online sources say DSS operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the insurgents at the outskirts of Kuchi. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of 45 bandits.

Several others sustained injuries while attempting to flee. Weapons and motorcycles were also recovered from the suspects.

Unfortunately, five DSS operatives were severely injured during the engagement and are currently receiving treatment.

The source added that the operation follows a series of recent offensives that have reportedly weakened the stronghold of Dogo Gide and his loyalists who are believed to have suffered significant territorial losses in recent months.

Community members have expressed relief and renewed hope as security agencies continue their intensified efforts to secure the region.

As the DSS and military continue their campaign against banditry, many are hopeful these sustained offensives will finally restore lasting peace to the affected areas.
