Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have arrested the sixth suspect linked to the 5 June, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, where over forty worshippers were killed.
Security sources told AIT_Online that the suspect, Sani Yusuf, a high-profile commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, was tracked and arrested in Iguosa community, Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State, after evading arrest for nearly four years.
The DSS is already prosecuting five other suspects over the deadly church attack.
The Sources further disclosed that Yusuf has confessed to his role in the planning and execution of the Owo massacre, as well as involvement in other terrorist operations, including the July 2022 attack on the Suleja military barracks, the Zuma Rock checkpoint assault that killed five soldiers, and several kidnappings in Kaduna State.
The arrest is being described as a major breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and a significant step toward justice for victims of the attacks.
